Netflix unveiled the trailer of One Hundred Years of Solitude, an adaptation of Nobel Prize-winning author Gabriel García Márquez's novel of the same name. It is "one of the most ambitious productions in Latin American history". The 16-episode show was filmed in Spanish and shot in Márquez’s native place Colombia with support from his family.

Part 1 of One Hundred Years of Solitude will show several important events depicted in the novel. The 2 minute-11 second trailer shows how the mythical town, Macondo was found, the birth of Colonel Aureliano Buendía and more.

The series synopsis reads: "The story follows cousins José and Úrsula, who get married against their parents’ wishes and leave their village to embark on a long journey in search of a new home. Accompanied by friends and adventurers, their voyage culminates with the founding of a utopian town on the banks of a river of prehistoric stones that they baptize Macondo. Several generations of the Buendía lineage will shape the future of this mythical town, tormented by madness, impossible loves, a bloody and absurd war, and a terrible curse that condemns them, without hope, to 100 years of solitude.''

Claudio Cataño who will be seen playing Colonel Aureliano Buendía, in a statement shared: “Macondo and its host of characters, who I truly feel as my own blood, are universal, but at the same time so unique; so from Colombia, so beautifully tragic that it is impossible not to be trapped in this world''.

Alex García López, who has directed the series told Entertainment Weekly, "It tells the story of, not only Colombia, but I think of Latin America as a whole. So when Netflix approached me, my initial reaction was like, 'I'll have to re-read it again and get back to you,' because it's a daunting task. It's a very epic novel, not only creatively, but also in terms of the cultural weight of bringing such a big, beloved book to life''.

"With all big projects, I think if there's not an element of fear in there driving you and inspiring you, then it's not worth doing it,'' he added.
